The Legal Resource Centre is a community-focused initiative dedicated to empowering citizens through accurate, accessible, and free legal information. Established as a pilot project in Mumbai, the Centre seeks to bridge the gap in legal awareness, particularly for individuals from underrepresented and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, by making legal knowledge easier to understand and access.
Our mission is founded on a simple yet powerful belief: access to justice begins with access to knowledge. The Centre provides guidance on a broad range of everyday legal issues, including civic rights, redevelopment and housing matters, succession planning, and other personal legal concerns.
The initiative was conceptualised by Jamshed Mistry, Chairperson of the Lions Club District Legal Awareness Committee, together with Mubarakka Lokhandwala, Vice-Chairperson of the Committee, in collaboration with Subhash Motwani of the Clean and Heritage Colaba Residents Association (CHCRA). The Centre is supported by International Legal Alliance, founded by seasoned lawyer Jamshed Mistry, along with Mumbai-based Jehani Legal and MML Advisory, who serve as the Centre’s knowledge partners and ensure that all information disseminated is accurate, practical, and aligned with current legal developments. In addition to its physical presence in Mumbai, the Legal Resource Centre is expanding its reach through a digital platform. Through regular workshops, community outreach initiatives, and online resources, the Centre aims to promote legal awareness, counter misinformation, and strengthen public understanding of the law. At the Legal Resource Centre, we are committed to the principle that an informed citizenry is the cornerstone of a just, transparent, and accountable society.
